The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief (Mrs.) Olufunmilola Disu, has called on women to embrace vocational training and emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), as vital tools for achieving financial independence and improving their livelihoods.
She also pledged to support the upgrading of the POWA Skill Acquisition Centre in Dei-Dei Barracks, Abuja, with improved staff welfare, maintenance and infrastructure aimed at creating a more conducive environment for learning and skills development.
Mrs. Disu made the remarks during an inspection visit to the centre, where she interacted with trainees, instructors and management staff to assess the institution’s operations and identify areas requiring improvement.
During the visit, she toured the various training units, including Adult Education, Baking and Confectionery, Tailoring, Hairdressing and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), commending the trainees for their commitment to learning and self-improvement.
Addressing participants, she said acquiring practical skills has become increasingly important in today’s economy, stressing that vocational education and digital literacy provide sustainable pathways to economic empowerment.
She urged the trainees to take advantage of opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence and other digital innovations, describing technology as a powerful tool that can improve productivity, stimulate creativity and open new business opportunities.
The POWA President later held discussions with the centre’s management and staff on its operational needs and future development.
She assured them of her commitment to improving staff welfare and supporting necessary renovations and facility upgrades to enhance the quality of training at the centre.
According to her, providing women with practical skills, knowledge and access to technology remains central to POWA’s mission of strengthening families and promoting economic resilience within the police community.
She added that the visit reflects the association’s continued commitment to advancing education, innovation and sustainable empowerment initiatives for members of the police family.
