The Prayer and Support for Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies (PSNAFSA) has commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for providing financial support to widows of fallen military and police personnel.
PSNAFSA said the N819 million intervention, provided through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which gave N500,000 each to 1,638 widows of fallen personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force, demonstrated the Federal Government’s recognition of the sacrifices made by security personnel in the service of the country.
In a statement issued on August 29, 2026, the Convener of PSNAFSA, Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile, described the intervention as a compassionate gesture that would provide some relief to families left behind by personnel who died while serving the nation.
Abayomi-Fatile said those who regularly pray for and support members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies understand the sacrifices made by military, police and other security personnel in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity, peace and security.
According to her, the families of fallen heroes continue to bear the consequences of their loss, stressing that widows and children left behind deserve sustained care, support and recognition from the nation.
She commended the First Lady for extending the intervention to the families and noted that the financial assistance could enable beneficiaries to establish new businesses or strengthen existing ones.
Abayomi-Fatile said such support would contribute to improving the economic independence of the beneficiaries and their ability to provide for their families.
She urged governments at all levels, corporate organisations, private individuals and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture by supporting families of security personnel who died in the line of duty.
The PSNAFSA convener stressed that caring for the families of fallen heroes should be regarded as a national responsibility that transcends political considerations and individual interests.
She, however, noted that while financial assistance could not replace a lost husband, father or loved one, interventions of such nature could provide hope, dignity and reassurance to the affected families.
Abayomi-Fatile also called on the Federal Government to sustain and expand welfare programmes for widows and children of fallen military, police and other security personnel.
She identified education, healthcare, housing, skills acquisition and sustainable economic empowerment as key areas requiring continued government attention.
She further expressed appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for what she described as a timely intervention, while praying for continued wisdom, strength and grace for the First Lady in sustaining initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
