One officer whose impact has continued to attract national attention is Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, whose reputation for professionalism, tactical policing and community-driven security initiatives has earned him widespread commendation across the country.
In recognition of his contributions to national security and public safety, the Inspector-General of Police Disu, will attend the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony as Special Guest of Honour.
The event, themed “2027 Election: Defending Democracy in the Era of Disinformation,” is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, by 10:00am.
The lecture is expected to bring together top government officials, media professionals, security stakeholders, political leaders and civil society actors to deliberate on the growing threat of fake news, misinformation and propaganda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the organisers, Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago of Niger State will serve as Chairman of the occasion, while former Kano State Governor and Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Abdullahi Ganduje, will attend as Co-Chairman.
Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Godwin Elumelu, is billed to deliver the keynote lecture, while the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, will serve as Chief Host. Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, will host the event.
Within a relatively short period, IGP Tunji Disu has distinguished himself as one of Nigeria’s most visible and result-oriented police officers. Known for his intelligence-led policing style, operational discipline and firm stance against criminality, Disu has earned respect both within and outside security circles.
Before his elevation to higher national responsibilities, Disu served in several strategic commands where he recorded notable successes in crime fighting, anti-kidnapping operations and restoration of public confidence in policing. His tenure in Lagos, especially in tactical and investigative units, was marked by coordinated crackdowns on armed robbery, cultism and violent crimes.
He also gained national prominence during his leadership of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), where several notorious criminal syndicates were dismantled and kidnap victims rescued through intelligence-driven operations.
Disu has been repeatedly described as a modern policing advocate committed to professionalism, inter-agency collaboration and community engagement. His approach to policing, many observers say, aligns with ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force as a more accountable and citizen-focused institution.
