A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Metta has ordered the remand of a transport union leader, Shamusideen Oladiti, over allegations of assault and murder.
Oladiti, a 55-year-old leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on murder, conspiracy, and grievous harm.
According to the charge sheet, the defendant allegedly beat one Imam Ramon with fist blows on August 27, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
Ramon was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, where he later died. The offence contravenes Section 223 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, which prescribes the punishment for murder.
In the second count, Oladiti and others still at large were accused of conspiring to commit grievous harm on September 17, 2025, also on Lagos Island, an offence said to violate Section 411 of the same law.
The third count alleged that the defendant and his accomplices unlawfully assaulted one Omale Samuel with fist blows on the same date and location, causing him grievous bodily harm, contrary to Section 245 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
When the case was called, the prosecutor, SP Anthony Iyeye, informed the court that investigations were still ongoing and urged the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Magistrate granted the request and ordered Oladiti’s remand in custody, directing that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the DPP within 30 days for further action. The matter was adjourned to October 28, 2025.
The Investigating Police Officer (IPO), ASP Johnson Olumuyiwa of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, confirmed that exhibits had been tendered and witnesses would be available when the trial commences.
