The Lagos State Police Command has announced extensive security deployment across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir and Children’s Day celebrations, with officers stationed at prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreation centres and other critical locations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, ordered the operation as part of efforts to ensure safety, maintain public order and guarantee smooth celebrations across Lagos.
According to the command, the security reinforcement aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening protection around Eid prayer grounds, recreational facilities and other vulnerable points during the festive season.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command disclosed that personnel have been deployed to critical infrastructure, city centres, linking roads, entry and exit routes, as well as other strategic areas considered vulnerable.
The police commissioner directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, Police Mobile Force personnel, Counter Terrorism Units, EOD-CBRN operatives and traffic officers to intensify visibility policing and strengthen anti-crime measures in their areas of responsibility.
The officers are also expected to enforce effective crowd management, secure major roads and ensure free flow of traffic throughout the celebrations.
Fatai further cautioned operatives to remain professional, lawful and courteous while carrying out their duties.
He congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, wishing them a peaceful, joyful and crime-free festival.
The police chief also extended greetings to children across the state as the 2026 Children’s Day celebration coincides with the Muslim festival.
He urged children and youths to reject violence, criminality and other negative behaviour, while embracing positive values and remaining alert to security concerns.
The command advised residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, persons or movements within their communities to the nearest police station.
Motorists, travellers and other road users were equally urged to cooperate with officers deployed across highways and other duty posts to ensure a safe, orderly and hitch-free celebration in Lagos.
