A Nigerian-American citizen and serving member of the United States Army, Mustapha Yusuf, has appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu to intervene in an investigation into an alleged threat to his life, while commending the police leadership for its commitment to professionalism and the rule of law.
In a petition addressed to the IGP, Yusuf urged the police hierarchy to expedite an investigation being handled by the Homicide Section of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Lagos, over allegations of threat to life, intimidation and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
According to the petition, the complaint names Hon. Mrs. Mosunmola Sangodara Rotimi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Surulere Constituency II.
Yusuf alleged that following the submission of his petition, detectives at the FCID commenced an investigation, during which a woman identified as Mrs. Dupe Adedokun was arrested. He claimed she voluntarily made a statement to investigators after he alleged she had been sent to monitor or ascertain his whereabouts.
The petitioner further alleged that police invited Hon. Rotimi to respond to the allegations. According to him, she was first asked to report on June 16, 2026, but did not honour the invitation. He also claimed she later indicated she would appear on July 16, 2026, but again failed to do so, adding that another reminder issued for July 20, 2026, was also not honoured.
Yusuf expressed concern that despite his repeated follow-up with investigators, the matter appeared to have stalled, a situation he said had heightened his fears over his safety.
“I am increasingly concerned that the investigation appears to have stalled despite the respondent’s repeated failure to honour police invitations. This has heightened my fears for my safety,” he stated in the petition.
While appealing for the IGP’s intervention, Yusuf commended the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, saying it had continued to demonstrate professionalism, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
He maintained that he was not seeking preferential treatment but was requesting that due process be allowed to take its course regardless of the status or public office of those involved.
The petitioner urged the Inspector-General to direct that the investigation at the FCID Homicide Section, Alagbon, be reviewed and expedited, ensure that all lawful investigative procedures are taken to secure the cooperation of relevant persons, and guarantee that the investigation is conducted impartially, professionally and without fear or favour.
He also appealed to the police authorities to take any additional lawful steps necessary to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the Constitution and other applicable laws.
Yusuf expressed confidence that the Inspector-General would give the petition urgent attention and said he remained optimistic that the Nigeria Police Force would ensure fairness and justice for all parties.
