The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khan Salihu, describing his passing as a huge loss to the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Police Command, and the nation’s security community.
In a statement signed by its President, Olalekan Olabulo, on June 15, 2026, the association said it received news of the senior officer’s death with shock and sadness.
Until his death, Salihu served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration at the Lagos State Police Command.
CRAN described the late officer as a highly respected and accomplished police administrator whose career was defined by discipline, professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to duty.
According to the association, Salihu distinguished himself as a dependable officer, an effective problem-solver, and a calm but firm administrator whose contributions strengthened internal systems and improved financial management within the Lagos State Police Command.
The association noted that his dedication to operational efficiency and institutional development earned him admiration across the Nigeria Police Force and the wider security community.
CRAN also highlighted the cordial relationship the deceased maintained with crime reporters, describing him as approachable, humane, cooperative, and supportive of responsible journalism.
“DCP Khan Salihu was a rising star within the Force whose career reflected excellence, leadership promise, and exceptional administrative competence,” the statement said.
The association added that it had looked forward to seeing him rise to the rank of Commissioner of Police and attain even greater responsibilities, given his impressive record of service and strategic leadership qualities.
“It is particularly painful that fate has brought an abrupt end to a career that held immense promise for the future,” CRAN stated.
The association further commended the late officer’s role in promoting accountability and enhancing administrative efficiency within the Lagos State Police Command, noting that his efforts contributed significantly to the modernization of police processes.
CRAN joined the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Police Command, and the family of the deceased in mourning what it described as an irreparable loss.
The association also extended its condolences to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, officers and men of the Force, as well as friends and associates of the deceased across the country.
Praying for the repose of the late officer, CRAN asked Almighty Allah to grant Salihu Al-Jannah Firdaus, forgive his shortcomings, and reward his years of dedicated service to Nigeria.
The association also prayed for strength and comfort for his family, colleagues, and the entire security community.
“DCP Khan Salihu will be remembered as a gentleman officer, a disciplined leader, a bridge-builder, and a committed public servant whose legacy of professionalism and excellence will continue to inspire future generations of police officers,” the statement concluded.
