A group under the ageism of Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies, (PSNAFSA), has condemned the killing of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and several other soldiers during the April 8, 2026 attack on the Damboa Military Base in Borno State.
The Convener of the group, Mary Abayomi-Fatile described the incident as a brutal and reprehensible act, highlighting the grave dangers faced daily by members of the armed forces in their efforts to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Abayomi-Fatile expressed deep condolences to the families of Brigadier General Braimah and the fallen soldiers, noting that the loss is painful and irreplaceable. She prayed for strength for the bereaved families and eternal rest for the deceased, adding that the nation shares in their grief.
She also paid tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and patriotism of the fallen officers, stating that their commitment to national service, even at the cost of their lives, will remain etched in the nation’s memory. She further honoured all military personnel who have lost their lives in the fight against insurgency, stressing that their sacrifices will not be in vain.
While acknowledging the devastating nature of the attack, the group noted that the Nigerian military has recorded significant successes over the years, including dismantling terrorist camps and neutralising several insurgents. However, she warned that the persistence of such attacks signals the urgent need for more decisive and coordinated action.
She called for a strong national resolve to end the continuous killing of military personnel, noting that such incidents have far-reaching implications on morale, operational effectiveness, and national security.
The PSNAFSA convener urged the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to identify and expose sponsors of terrorism, as well as dismantle their financial and logistical networks. She also called for tighter control to curb the flow of arms and ammunition into the country and ensure that those aiding criminal elements are brought to justice.
PSNAFSA emphasised that tackling insecurity is a collective responsibility, urging Nigerians to support security agencies, remain vigilant, and contribute to intelligence gathering within their communities.
The group maintained that only a united national effort can restore lasting peace and security across the country.
