A Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja has sentenced a 35-year-old furniture maker, Yusuf Abiodun Odunolu, to six months’ imprisonment for engaging in online fraud.
The court presided by Justice Ijelu, sentenced Odunolu, an O’Level certificate holder after finding him guilty.
The convict was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on September 24, 2025, at Lekki, Lagos. At the time of his arrest, an iPhone 12 Pro Max was recovered from him, and subsequent analysis of the device revealed documents linked to fraudulent online dating activities.
When arraigned in court, Odunolu pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him by the Economic Financial and Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His counsel, however, pleaded for leniency, stressing that the defendant was a first-time offender, genuinely remorseful, who has aged parents to care for, while adding that he has not derived any financial benefit from the fraudulent application found on his phone.
Justice Ijelu convicted Odunolu and sentenced him to six months in prison, with an option of a ₦300,000 fine payable within 30 days.
The court however ordered him to submit a written undertaking to the EFCC, pledging to be of good behavior henceforth.
